The impact of communications technology on romantic relationships

The Denver Post reports:

A Shape and Men’s Fitness magazine survey released last week on how the digital age continues to redefine relationships suggests that new couples get intimate faster because of e-mails, texts and other high-tech ways to communicate…

One surprising fact: nearly 80 percent of women said their relationships lead to sex more quickly because it was so easy for them to stay connected to their beaus. Meanwhile, 58 percent of men said flirting on Facebook, G-chat and texting helped them become intimate sooner.

Among the survey’s findings:

  • 70% of women have “sexted” their partner
  • Over 65% of women have been asked out via text
  • 49% of women have been asked out by Facebook message
